Owens Corning has three tiers of certified contractors. A standard contractor can install Owens Corning shingles but cannot offer extended manufacturer warranties. A Preferred contractor has passed background checks and can offer the System Protection Warranty. A Platinum Preferred contractor — which Premier Roofing is — has passed the most rigorous financial, credit, and workmanship inspections that Owens Corning requires. Why does it matter which tier my roofer is?
The tier your contractor holds determines what warranty you can receive. Only a Platinum Preferred contractor is authorized to offer the Platinum Protection Roofing System Limited Warranty. This is a 50-year warranty that covers both materials and workmanship, and it is backed directly by Owens Corning — a Fortune 500 company. If your contractor goes out of business, your warranty remains fully intact because it is held by the manufacturer, not the contractor.
What does the Platinum Protection warranty actually cover?
The Platinum Protection warranty covers the full roofing system — not just the shingles. This includes the shingles, underlayment, starter strips, ridge cap, and ventilation components, all installed as a system. It also covers workmanship defects for the life of the warranty period. A standard shingle-only warranty from a non-certified installer typically covers materials only and often requires you to prove the defect was a manufacturing issue, not an installation error.
